How Can The Atkins Diet Plan Help You?

The Atkins diet plan is a technique that helps our body to lose weight naturally by inducing an adjustment in metabolism. Human body is capable of burning both fat and carbohydrates to provide the energy required to function properly. Carbohydrate, in glucose form, is the first fuel used to give energy to the body.

Dr Atkins indicates that when we reduce our consumption of carbohydrates rapidly, our body changes from burning carbohydrates to burning fat. This process is known as lipolysis. The consequent result of this procedure is ketosis. When fat is burned for fuel, ketones are released through the breath and urine, and their quantities can be measured with ketone strips. This is how we lose weight through Atkins Diet Plan.

Dr Atkins also states that ketosis will influence insulin production which will stop more fat from being produced. Our body starts efficiently to use the fat as fuel and our desires for carbohydrate will subside, once we enter ketosis.

Atkins Diet plan is based on four essential phases. Each particular phase allows you to select carefully which foods to eat based on your need to reach weight loss, enjoy good health and prevent illness. Food choices will differ to varying levels depending upon the stage you are in and your own metabolism.

In phase one (Atkins Diet Induction Phase), carbohydrate taken is restricted to 20 grams per day. Most carbohydrate can be from salad and other non-starch vegetables.

In Atkins Diet phase two (Ongoing Weight Loss) you add up carbohydrate, in the form of fiber – nutrient foods, by increasing to 25 grams daily the first week, 30 grams daily the next week and so on until your weight loss stops.

Then take away 5 grams of carbohydrate from your daily intake so that you continue to sustain moderate weight loss.

Atkins Diet Phase three’s (Pre-Maintenance) objective is to make the conversion from weight loss to weight sustain by increasing the daily carbohydrate consumption in 10-gram increases each week so long as very gradual weight loss is maintained.

And the Atkins Diet final phase (Lifetime Maintenance) is the establishment for a life time of better health. In this stage you can select from a wide variety of foods while controlling carbohydrate intake to ensure weight maintenance and be aware of well-being.
